About this placement

What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

Please download and read the student welcome pack prior to commencing placement.

An introduction to the ward will be given alongside orientation.

Students will be informed of their mentoring team and off duty will be provided.

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

Each student is allocated a named mentor/assessor and is placed in a mentoring team to work alongside when their mentor is absent.  The initials of these staff members will be marked on the student off duty.

What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?

Early:

07.00 – 13.30

Late:

13.00 – 19.30

Night:

19.00 – 07.30

Shift Notes:

Long Day: 07.00 – 19.30

What patient care situations are available in this placement?

Students will be able to experience a variety of care situations including pre-operative care, post-operative care, nutrition needs, gastroenterology, stoma care and intestinal failure.

What nursing model is used for planning care?

Roper, Logan and Tierney activities of daily living.
