What patient care situations are available in this placement?
Pre op patients, Post op patients, Trauma Patients, patients being investigated for cancer or have a diagnosis of cancer
What nursing model is used for planning care?
Roper, Logan & Tierney
What core clinical skills can be learnt?
Assessment and management of acute and chronic pain.
Use of various infusion pumps that provide pain control.
Insertion of epidurals, blocks and local wound infusions
What additional clinical skills can be learnt?
Good communication skills.
Managing a bleep system.
Multidisciplinary team working.
What resources are available to help students learning?
Library with books on pain and pain management.
Outpatient clinics
Injection clinics
Spinal cord stimulation theatre and clinics
What research and practice development activities are being undertaken?
Audits are being undertaken on epidurals, local wound infusions and management and treatment of fractured ribs.
Spoke Placements
Palliative care team, theatre, theatre recovery, pre op, high dependency, pain psychology. We can facilitate anywhere the student would like to go if appropriate.
