What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

There are 3 mentors on the ward with more booked on to Preparation for Mentorship so you will work under a student mentor with supervision from a mentor.

What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?

Early:

07.00 – 13.30

Late:

13.00 – 19.30

Night:

19.00 – 07.30

Shift Notes:

Long Day: 07.00am- 19.30pm#

Shifts can be agreed on placement commencement

What patient care situations are available in this placement?

As an acute Trauma unit patients are admitted as emergencies. Many patients require assistance with ADL’s, a strong involvement with AHP’s, and complex wound care. There will be opportunities for students to go with a patient to theatre and Spoke to other wards to follow a full patient journey

What nursing model is used for planning care?

TAU use an adaptation of the Roper Logan & Tierney’s, activities of daily living model to assess patients on the unit

What core clinical skills can be learnt?

Provision of ADLs. Medicines management. Physiological and neurological observations. Wound Care.

What additional clinical skills can be learnt?

Discharge planning. Trauma pathway. Role of Trauma Coordinators
