About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
We advise all students to undertake eLearning for GCP prior to starting their placement, links for this can be found in the student handbook.
Students will be provided with their own PC and somewhere to store their belongings, you will be inducted into the local area. You will be assigned a supervisor who will discuss your learning needs with you and ask what you hope to achieve whilst with us. We want to you enjoy your time with us so we will assist you to achieve your learning outcomes to the best of your ability and to seek out all available learning opportunities.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
Louise Winter is a supervisor, she works 30 hours per week
Dominic Kay and Joe Ogor both work 37.5 hrs per weeks and are both Supervisors
Nicola Proudfoot works 36 hours per week and is a supervisor/Assessor (PEL)

We can accommodate longer working days over a 4-day period if required, please discuss with the team lead prior to commencing your placement.
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
Patients are seen in the Research facility and are booked in on a day case basis for the purpose of the specific study they are enrolled onto.
Patients are also recruited remotely via telephone, email or via inpatient on the wards or in the outpatient department, sometimes within the surgical areas too.

What resources are available to help students learning?
We use a vast array of electronic databases to facilitate our learning within our specialty and we also undertake remote teams learning provided by pharma companies which students are also encouraged to participate in. we have books and journals both in hard copy and electronic versions which can be accessed. Shadowing members of the MDT is also encouraged to assist consolidation of learning.
What research and practice development activities are being undertaken?
Within research we are continually auditing our practice and looking for ways to improve our practice, our role is also integral to improving future patient care and future treatments
Spoke Placements
We have many areas where students can spoke out, such as other research teams, radiology, vascular technicians, Research for the Future, Rheumatology specialist nurses, orthopaedic and Rheumatology outpatient departments as well as spending time with the team attending the research facility at Pennine NCA Trust where we also recruit to MSK trials.
