About this placement

What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

On your first day you will be introduced to the ward team and orientated to the ward. You will be given time the opportunity read the welcome pack and meet your practice assessor or supervisor

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

You will be assigned a supervisor and Assessor on Pare but will be supported by all the nursing team on L7 during your allocation. The Supervisors and assessors for this placement are:

What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?

Shift Notes:

Day shift:  07.00 – 19.30

Night shift:  19.00 – 07.30

Notes: Generally, shifts are long days however if required and in negotiation with the supervisor or assessor students could negotiate short shifts. Please be mindful about being present at handover. This is a very important part of the shift and imperative that learners are present at handover.

What core clinical skills can be learnt?

  • Core clinical skills
  • ECG’s, bladder scans, early warning scores charts.
  • Management of diabetic emergencies
  • Nursing documentation including electronic patient records.
  • Understanding of fluid balance, intravenous therapy, and nutrition.
  • Basic understanding of commonly used drugs within L7

L7 is a 24 bedded acute medical ward based on the 4th floor of the Ladywell Building at Salford Royal. L7 specialises in a variety of medical conditions primarily diabetic and endocrine disorders.

L7 is keen and eager to support learners within the Salford Care organisation and looks forward to meeting you on L7 for your placement
