About this placement

What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

Students will be exposed to a variety of renal services during their placement on the renal unit.

These include the short stay unit, home training and specialist nurse services

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

Students will be allocated a named mentor and work with a team of associate mentors throughout their placement

Orem’s Model. The ward philosophy is based on this model, where the role of the nurse is seen as being to provide assistance to influence patient’s development in achieving an optimal level of self-care.

What research and practice development activities are being undertaken?

The unit has close links with the renal research department – spokes in to the department can be arranged.
