About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
Orientation to the unit, identifying learning needs. Students will receive a placement handbook prior to commencing placement. Please email the ward PEL for this information.
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
Students are allocated qualified mentors and associate mentors; they will work with them in accordance to NMC guidelines.

What nursing model is used for planning care?
An adapated version of Roper, Logan and Tierney Model of Nursing.

What resources are available to help students learning?
Observations of and participation in patient care and nursing interventions; support and guidance from staff and MDT members.
All students are encouraged to attend in house training sessions.
All Teaching sessions are published on synapse (trust internet) home page, and on the notice boards around the hospital.
There is a resource room on the ward were all student information is kept.
There is also a student notice board.
Students have access to both the internet and intranet.
Interesting books and articles which staff have put together are kept in the wards resource room.
Students are able to visit the Trust Academic Library where there are expansive resources available.
What research and practice development activities are being undertaken?
The ward is currently involved with on-going projects which change on a regular basis. Please discuss with your mentor and/or the ward PEL for more details.
Spoke Placements
To focus and maximise student learning they are encouraged and supported to attend spoke placements which will suit their learning needs.
