What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?
Early: 07:30- 15:30
Late: 12:30- 20:30
Night: 20:00-08:00
Days: 24/7
Notes: Despite having early and late shifts available most of our staff prefer to do long days 07:30-20:30. This is also preferred by the ward
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
8 bedded ward that receives adult patients primarily short stay under the care of A&E or Medics, Types of patients are Intentional/accidental overdose, fall with traumatic injury, rib and spine fractures, Cellulitis and most general medical cases.
What nursing model is used for planning care?
The ward functions on a hybrid of primary and team nursing model.
What core clinical skills can be learnt?
Vital monitoring, Medication administration both oral an intravenous, Venepuncture and cannulation, blood transfusion
What additional clinical skills can be learnt?
Wound dressing, PCA management, GCS assessment, confusion screening, sepsis pathway, wound infusion.
What resources are available to help students learning?
There is a library & learning centre situated in the Education Centre available for your use. The library has a comprehensive stock of textbooks, and journals
