Chris Pollard / RUNNER UP

BA (Hons) Television and Radio Production

Chris Pollard is an extraordinary talent and is one of the most prolific and inventive students on the course. Chris began his studies after starting his working life in a Sheffield Steelworks, and has since become devoted to his discipline. He produces a weekly radio comedy programme full of densely written, elegantly produced and wonderfully performed comedy audio, released under the name ‘Guppy Dream’. Chris also supplies the University’s two radio stations, Shock Radio and Utter Radio, with high quality content. Most recently, his work caught the attention of Durham On Air where he was given his own weekly slot with complete editorial and creative freedom.

According to Director of Grim Up North Productions, Sam Lupton, “Chris is one of the most creative talents in modern radio. He is one of the few genuine talents who continues to try to push the boundaries of what is possible with the medium. He challenges the listeners and joyfully drags them kicking and screaming into radio that is not only more entertaining, but more rewarding to listen to than anything else widely available on the UK commercial market.”

Chris says “Knowing I have been shortlisted fills me with an enormous amount of pride and joy. It’s has been an extremely tough ride the last two years, and I feared my work would reflect that. Throughout my studies, I have strived to make content that is different, out-there and a unique experience for the consumer. I selfishly make things I want to enjoy, regardless of what is popular. To have someone enjoy my work to such a level that I have been nominated is an immense privilege, one I will be eternally grateful for. I am excited for what the future may hold.”
