Matthew Alty / RUNNER UP

BA (Hons) Technical Theatre (Production and Design)

Matthew has taken a proactive approach to his own learning throughout his university career, pursuing and undertaking extra-curricular engagement activities under his own initiative. He then actively and purposely shares this knowledge with his peers, helping to create a supportive peer-to-peer learning environment. As part of practical modules, Matthew’s feedback from both industry professionals and University staff has been of an outstanding quality. He conducts himself professionally and confidently at all times, and his genuine interest in and pursuit of knowledge in technical theatre, particularly in his specialism of theatre sound engineering, shows ambition and a determination to succeed in the professional workplace.

Matthew has recently secured a job as a Theatre Technician in a local school and has been balancing this alongside his studies, maintaining a positive attitude and showcasing a terrific work ethic. As Student Representative, Matthew is widely respected by other students who encouraged his nomination for this award to recognise the generous and compassionate support he has given to them over the past three years.

Matthew says “Being nominated for the Create Student Awards is a great honour. When I found out I’d been shortlisted, for the first time in a while I found myself stopping and looking back at my accomplishments. I find that when you’re constantly pushing forward, climbing for success, you can forget how far you’ve come from the beginning of your journey. Being a finalist is a reminder from those you saw you at the start of that journey, showing just you how far you’ve come.”
