Juliette Holmes / RUNNER UP

BA (Hons) Film Production

Juliette is a star student of the BA (Hons) Film Production programme. Whilst excelling academically, she has been central in developing a community with her fellow students through her engagement and leadership of extra-curricular projects. In 2020, Juliette began working on the course podcast team, recording several episodes, including interviews with award-winning filmmakers and a ‘Black Voices in Editing and Post-Production’ special. She was also part of the core student team who created and organised the incredibly successful Festival of Short Film, leading her to liaise with guest speakers and technology companies to coordinate masterclasses and screenings. Furthermore, Juliette co-manages the course Instagram page which provides a key channel for students to promote their work and directly engage with professionals from the filmmaking industry.

Juliette is ambitious yet remains motivated to generate an engaging and inclusive community across her cohort. Alex Lichtenfels, Programme Leader for Film Production, states “through her incredible passion, dedication, innovation and work ethic, Juliette’s individual success is rooted in the way she develops opportunities for others”. This considerate spirit will surely take her far upon graduation.

Juliette says “I feel truly honoured to be nominated for the Film and Media Award. To be recognised for my creative work over the duration of my degree in Film Production means the world to me. The creation of film content has always been a huge passion of mine. The last half of my degree has been far from what I ever expected with the limitations of the pandemic, having to adjust to remote working and online learning hasn’t been an easy journey for anyone. However, having the support of my amazing peers, lecturers, colleagues and family has been a great encouragement throughout this time. Despite the lockdown, I’m extremely grateful to still have been able to produce the Film Production podcast, lead marketing at the Festival of Short Film with my fellow nominee Aran Davies, as well as getting my final university film, ‘The Cabin Below a Diamond Sky’, into production. Although much of this has taken place virtually, this awards ceremony included, I can’t wait to eventually celebrate with everyone in person when we are closer to some normality. Until then, thank you so much for this nomination, and best of luck to all the other nominees!”
