Jiaqi ‘Patrick’ He / RUNNER UP

MA Visual Communication

Patrick joined the University as a LAFA (LuXun Academy of Fine Arts) student, completing his undergraduate studies at Salford with a first-class honours before progressing to the Masters in Visual Communication [hyperlink]. He now plays an ambassadorial role in assisting fellow students who have continued their studies from China. His considerable efforts in helping his peers during the difficult early days of the pandemic, was a significant factor in the successful and safe transition of students to China from the UK.

Patrick has excelled in his studies and has been highly commended by staff, integrating himself within the professional networks of Salford and Manchester design studios, building a portfolio of work that will help him find employment post-graduation. He takes great pride in engaging in his adopted city and recently won an Alumni Photoshoot competition, set by Salford International, with a photograph of himself on campus by the LBGTQ+ crossroads across The Crescent. Patrick is an asset to his course, the School and wider University and we are very proud of his achievements to date.

Patrick says “I am delighted to be a student at the University of Salford, and a representative of LAFA (LuXun Academy of Fine Arts) in China. The relationship between these two universities has given me this opportunity to study in the UK. Salford is a dynamic and inspiring city in which to study. I have enjoyed making friends and enhancing my skills with the support of my tutors and fellow students and am honoured to be shortlisted for this award, as a designer and creator. As a Graphic Design student, design inspirations and support from tutors are very important. The University effectively provides a creative and friendly learning environment. Thank you for giving me this amazing university experience.”
