David Poucher / WINNER

BA (Hons) Journalism: Broadcast

Over the last three years, David has consistently demonstrated a fervour for journalism with academic achievement in many of his assignments plus engagement with extra-curricular opportunities including volunteering at University open days, to share his Salford experience with prospective new students.

Throughout all the challenges of the pandemic, David has maintained a positive attitude and outstanding work ethic. He has been a valuable member of the Quays News and Salford Now teams, working as a TV Producer, Broadcast Journalist and Multimedia Journalist. He has identified, reported, managed and produced stories that have made a significant impact on the Salford community. He has also become a valuable member of the University communications office and has become a regular contributor to Manchester’s LGBTQ+ website Canal Street Online, producing both multimedia and social media content.

His impressive placements with ITV saw him covering the 2019 general election, before moving to ITN where he shadowed newsreader Mary Nightingale. As stated by lecturer Debra Manley, “he’s certainly got a bright future in front of him”.

David says “It really means so much to be nominated by my lecturer, Debra Manley. She has been a great teacher and I have learned so much from her. I have loved my time at the University of Salford, and I will never forget the memories made here.”
