Shelley is an incredibly highly motivated mature student. The energy and inventiveness she demonstrated in her radio work has been exceptional, and her magazine programmes have featured an extraordinary range of high-quality contributors, ideas and treatments, alongside intellectual rigour.
Over the last few years, Shelley has overcome extraordinarily challenging personal circumstances whilst being a student, remaining dedicated to her degree throughout. She is a consummate professional in the studio and always warm natured in her relationships with staff and fellow students. Her stewardship of group productions has always been deftly handled, willing to help others whilst being an assertive driver of projects. In 2020, Shelley was diagnosed with Autism and has since produced an enlightening programme about Autism in the media industry. The documentary involved industry professionals, also living with Autism, and has recently been submitted for a national student feature-making award, the coveted Charles Parker Prize.
Shelley is an exemplary student and, above all, an inspiring individual. As stated by Lecturer in BA (Hons) Television and Radio Production, Jimmy Ewing, “Shelley is a true star that has overcome some of life’s greatest challenges whilst studying here at Salford, and is very well respected by her lecturers and peers alike.”
Shelley says “I honestly have no words to describe the shock I am in at being shortlisted. Life outside of university has been extremely traumatic for me over the last couple of years, but I chose to channel all that energy into my work. It’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do, and for that to be recognised with this nomination feels absolutely incredible. I am so grateful to everyone who has supported me along the way.”
