Olaj Olufunwa

MA Documentary Production for TV, Film and Digital Media

Originally from Nigeria, Olaj has returned to education at the University with determination, ambition and real drive to succeed. Aspiring to create films and become an entrepreneur focusing on lifestyle content, she has demonstrated creative flair and brings a diverse perspective into the classroom. She is also keen to reveal and tell articulate stories about people living with Autism, and has developed some truly life-affirming treatments highlighting some of the “superpowers” that Autistic people have. This work has provided an invaluable and positive outlet for people whose voices may not always be heard.

Juggling her busy personal life and her University education is no small feat and even when faced with challenges she always ensures that she is present online and has submitted some incredibly impressive work throughout her studies. Olaj has been credited by her lecturers as a “pleasure to teach” and we are privileged to have been a part of her academic journey.

Olaj says “Going back for my master’s degree after a 16-year education break was a bit daunting, but as soon as I commenced the course, I knew I had made the right decision. The tutors have been nothing short of amazing in supporting and guiding me through the process, which has helped open my mind and harness my creativity. I’m also grateful for the opportunities provided in the course to learn the tricks of the trade from industry professionals who have been generous with their knowledge and expertise. However, the icing on the cake for me is my nomination for the Create Student Awards, which is such an honour and a testament to the fact that my dreams are still valid. I’m also inspired to keep working hard at my craft and pushing the boundaries to become the best I can be.”
