Charlotte Atherton

BA (Hons) Journalism: Multimedia

Charlotte has been shortlisted as a finalist following a nomination from a fellow student, praising her as “a wonderful peer to study alongside”. Throughout her time at Salford, Charlotte has been a dedicated, positive and well-liked member of our Journalism and MediaCity campus community. Over the last academic year, she has thrived as the Sports Editor of ‘Salford Now’ – the local news site produced by undergraduate students. Whilst in this position, she has developed her expertise and maintained relationships with multiple professional level sports clubs and used these contacts to write countless stories, as well as providing other students with similar opportunities.

Her recent efforts have seen her become a Student Ambassador, sharing her passion for the Journalism course with prospective students at online Open Days and via online events. Towards the end of 2021, Charlotte put her skills into practice on an incredibly productive work placement at Wigan Athletic Football Club. This was a dream come true for her, and she excelled in producing stories for the club website, interviewing players and writing match reports with one being featured in the match day programme.

Charlotte says “I am so pleased to be a finalist for the Create Student Awards! I have had the best three years studying at Salford and to be recognised for my success is an amazing feeling. Not only have I developed my skills in the field I hope to work in once I have graduated, but I have also grown so much as a person. I have experienced more than I could have ever imagined while studying here and I will always look back on my time at the University of Salford with the biggest smile.”
