Luke Whipp

BA (Hons) Dance

Even before joining the course, Luke ensured that he was part of the community at Salford by visiting the campus to watch productions and attending all applicant visit days. This commitment to his discipline has been unswerving ever since.

His attitude to engagement has an undeniably positive impact on those around him, with his eagerness to learn, experiment and develop his creative and academic skills producing fruitful collaborations with the industry. Last summer, he was successful in receiving funding from Oldham Arts Festival to create an original outdoor show and receive mentoring. Since then, Luke has worked with Ruth Jones and Walk the Plank, and was selected by Hawk Dance for the WN Dance Company. He has been a real asset for outreach work, shining a light on the course at regional and national events such as One Dance UK UDance Festival at The Lowry, plus Wigan and Leigh Dance Festival.

Luke’s energy and passion for dance is infectious, and we’re delighted to support his talents further following his offer to join the MA Dance Choreography course later this year.

Luke says “I am honoured and elated to have been nominated for this award let alone shortlisted. I have really enjoyed my time at University of Salford and have spent my three years committed to studies and the course which I have done because I enjoy what I study and getting involved, it is exciting to be recognised for the work I have put in. When I received the news I’d been shortlisted, the biggest smile grew on my face. It is truly exciting to be considered for this award especially when I am coming to the end of my studies. Just being shortlisted is an additional thing to take away with me in to my career, knowing that I made some sort of impact during my time at Salford.”
