Nat Dempsey

BA (Hons) Music: Popular Music and Recording

A talented singer-songwriter, Nat began releasing his music on Spotify in 2018 which saw him gain 15,000 streams and airplay by Steve Lamacq on BBC 6 Music, BBC Introducing in Cumbria, and online stations Redwall Radio and Nova Radio. Alongside his studies, he also regularly performs acoustically as a solo artist and in a four-piece band with three fellow Music students. Nat has played at many legendary Manchester venues including Gulliver’s, The Deaf Institute, Eagle Inn, and Night & Day Cafe, putting himself on the music scene map by working with established promoters Scruff of The Neck, Dusty Pop, and Bread Records.

In addition to writing, performing, and promoting his own songs, Nat has developed further industry experience as part of his ambitious events project during his final year. His group organised, curated, and promoted a live show entitled ‘AV Collective’, a cross-arts night featuring live music and visual arts at Aatma in Manchester. Nat’s contribution to reviving the live music scene during and following the pandemic are truly commendable.

Nat says “It means a great deal to have been shortlisted for a Create Student Award. I’ve had a lot of aims and objectives since coming to Salford, which I hope to have fulfilled through both my work at the University and in the wider city. To be in this position, where the effort and achievement has been recognised in such a way, is both fulfilling and relieving.”
