Paul Vivian

Director – Art and Design / Salford School of Arts, Media and Creative Technology

Paul says “The Create Student Awards is representative of the School’s recognition of individual student excellence. For our Art and Design category, we have an exceptional shortlist of candidates, all of whom have provided evidence working this year at the highest level through achievements within programme and external recognition through live projects or placements. Central to the School, and Directorate study area, is our commitment to providing students with direct experience of professional life and environments. I wish all the finalists well on the next stage of their study or careers and remind them that the University is always here to support them.”

Paul has worked in Further and Higher Education for 23 years in teaching, programme leadership and management roles. During this time, he previously developed ‘Black Box’ an international curatorial project space including projects by artists Gavin Turk and David Batchelor. Paul holds several external examiner roles and have contributed to validation and review panels for a number of UK universities. In addition, he is a practicing artist who has contributed to group exhibitions and presented solo projects both nationally and internationally within the UK, Ireland, and Germany. Paul has published on creative pedagogy and collage and delivered papers at conferences internationally on the subject of collage and trauma. He holds a studio within Greater Manchester and previously studied Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art and Design and Norwich School of Art and Design.
