On Wednesday 11 February, we welcomed alumni back to our New Adelphi building for a Creative Careers & Freelancing event, bringing together graduates and current students for an afternoon of panel discussions and honest reflections on working in industry and what to expect after graduation.

The Careers Panel featured alumni Andy Lochtie (Lumos Digital) and Kieran Hammond (City & Guilds), as well as Becky Chesworth (Costello Medical), who was the only non-alumnus taking part. They shared their journeys from graduation into industry and offered practical reflections on building careers in the creative sector.

Our Freelancing Panel included alumni Sam Wood (Salford Media Works / Further Works), Charly Harvey (Charly Harvey Graphic Design) and Xavier Sonski (Memorisica). They spoke about self-employment, developing a client base and the realities of freelance work.

It was particularly special to see so many graduates return to campus to support current students. Feedback from the alumni was overwhelmingly positive, with panellists saying it was exactly the kind of access to advice and industry insight they would have appreciated as students themselves.

Events like this rely on alumni who are willing to share their experience and time. If you would be interested in supporting students through panels, mentoring or other opportunities, you can express your interest in volunteering below.
