A new artists’ film, which Andrew Snowden, Associate Director of External Relations introduced as “stimulating and thought-provoking”, is now being shown at Salford Museum & Art Gallery.

“I am deeply proud that the University of Salford Art Collection continues to innovate and be at the cutting edge, taking risks, pushing boundaries and is leading the way in the northwest.”

Eileen Simpson and Ben White have created nostalgic work Everything I Have is Yours, which illustrates the artists’ interest in music, copyright and digital technology. Working with material that was made before copyright restrictions came in to play, Simpson and White invited musicians who were teenagers during 1932-62, the first decade of the UK pop charts, to re-engage with sounds assembled from their Open Music Archive . The musicians interacted with digital technology, recalling particular sounds and sections of songs from their youth. The film, on display on the first floor of the gallery captures this process, looping continuously for 30 minutes.

The artists, Simpson and White are thrilled to be showing their work in this gallery:

“It is a real contrast to the rest of the art on display
and we are proud that our work is in a collection in our hometown. Working with new technology gave us new ideas, even though we were using 60 year old music.”

The film is a collaboration between the UoS Art CollectionCastlefield GalleryContemporary Art Society and Film & Video Umbrella, and can be viewed until 3 November 2019.
