Ellie Kemp – Runner Up

BA (Hons) Journalism: Broadcast

As a student, Ellie consistently went above and beyond in everything she did within and beyond her University work. Ellie’s passion for journalism and her professionalism was evident from the start. She has independently undertaken several work experience roles to enhance her skills, becoming runner up for the BBC Radio 4 Journalist of the Year Award. For her Final Major Project, she tackled the challenge to film in Romania and highlight the plight of chronic heart disease, taking herself to a country she has never visited before to obtain footage for her TV package, interviewing doctors and patients in pressured conditions. It was a project she worked hard to self-fund and her determination to achieve is something that Ellie has in abundance; she never gives up.

Ellie says: “It was a lovely surprise to be shortlisted for the Journalism, Politics and History Award! It feels amazing to have my hard work recognised, and it has given me some motivation to continue my craft during the pandemic. I have absolutely loved my three years at Salford, so this nomination is the icing on the cake, really!”
