Professor Allan Walker

Dean of the School of Arts and Media

“Judging the Create Student Awards is the highlight of my year as Dean of the School. Each year, I am stunned by the breath-taking successes, stories and marvellous achievements of our final year and postgraduate students. The judging for our 2020 final shortlist was just so difficult, with the bar being raised across each-and-every one of the 134 nominations we received. Across this year’s Awards, you will see what an incredible year we have achieved within the School against all adversities – and our success is down to every single one of our students. They continue to help us to redefine ourselves at the heart of exciting new developments, increasingly through interdisciplinary practice and technology closely linked to the creative industries.

As an academic community, our students and our professional, technical and academic staff are making a substantial contribution to the culture and urban regeneration of the City of Salford and on the international stage, through research and partnerships in Europe and China. Over the past few months, we have been at the forefront of activity supporting the NHS and have also provided important communication and media contributions. We are adjusting rapidly to new ways of working in response to the pandemic, and this is heralding highly innovative approaches to online delivery and blended learning.

I wish all our 25 Create Student Awards nominees the very best of luck for their journey as University of Salford graduates. You are all exceptional individuals and I believe your futures are brighter than ever.”
