2019 Performance, English and Creative Writing Award Winner

“Winning the Create Student Award encouraged me to pursue and persevere with my creative work. I went on to complete my Master’s in Creative Writing: Innovation and Experiment graduating with a Distinction. I was subsequently interviewed for Asian Life Magazine where I discussed my creative ambitions and personal poetics. I have since applied for doctoral study in Creative Writing to explore British Pakistani experience in poetry. I have been published in the literary journal The Ofi Press (Issue 65) with two poems and was commissioned to write an article entitled ‘The Rise of Islamophobia in Britain’ which explored how poetry might potentially tackle prejudices. Most recently, I have been commissioned by the New Creatives, a talent development scheme supported by Arts Council England and BBC Arts and delivered by Tyneside Cinema, to develop and produce one of my experimental poems. It has been an eventful twelve months.”
