About this placement

What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

They will meet their mentor and be shown round the health centre
Within the first few days the mentor will organise their assessment dates

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

When the students ring prior to the placement they will be given the name of their mentor

What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?

Shift Notes:

The majority off shifts will be 8:30 – 17:00 but there will be occasions when they will be encourage to do the late shift which is an additional shift 17:30 – 20:00

What patient care situations are available in this placement?

The clinics are split into 3 types ear syringing, general clinic and leg ulcer

What nursing model is used for planning care?

What core clinical skills can be learnt?

Leg ulcer management, Wound care, ANTT, Clinical assessment and basic observations

What additional clinical skills can be learnt?

Bandaging, Dressings, ear assessment, nutrition, injections and much more

What resources are available to help students learning?

Intranet, access to hospital library
