- Students are allocated a mentor/assessor prior to arrival
- Specific time is allocated to spend with mentor/assessor in order to complete necessary placement paperwork.

What nursing model is used for planning care?
What core clinical skills can be learnt?
To gain knowledge of the referral process for care management
To learn how to assist with the assessment & care plan for the children & young persons who will be attending the department to have investigations and treatments
To further develop a range of communication skills
Liaise with other members of the Multidisciplinary Team
Observe and discuss the theory under pinning the practical skills that are undertaken in the Children’s Department
What additional clinical skills can be learnt?
During your placement we hope you will gain an understanding of the Out Patients Department, its purpose within the Community services and witness the experiences of the children who visit us.
You will be able to observe and participate in various clinics, spend time with nurse specialists and visit different areas in relation to specific aims & objectives.
We all actively take a part in Health Promotion by using display & notice boards and we always welcome your input.

Additional Information
Services were commenced at Pendleton Gateway in 2009. Its joint approach has been adopted in developing a mixed range of services by the NHS and Local Authority
The Department is on the second floor of the centre and incorporates existing children’s services transferred from both the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital in Pendlebury and Booth Hall Children’s Hospital following their closure in June 2009
