About this placement
What is organised for students on commencement of placement?
Orientation & Induction
• Each student will be provided with Radiology Nurses welcome pack via email
• Introduction to allocated practice assessor, Practice supervisor and other members of MDT
• Orientation to the angiography Department and other areas within Radiology
• Completed initial interview and learning needs identified within 48hrs
What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?
The students will have an allocated Practice supervisor and Practice assessor, but will be supported by all
What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?
Monday-Friday
08:00-18:00 4 shifts per week

These patterns can be discussed by learners by contacting placement before start date.
What patient care situations are available in this placement?
Prepare patients for interventional radiology procedures.
Further assessment on arrival on department
Planning individual patient care according to their physical condition, comorbidities, infection status etc.
Prepare sterile trolly.
Scrubbing
Post care and evaluation.
What nursing model is used for planning care?
What core clinical skills can be learnt?
IRMER(radiation Protection)
Monitoring vital signs
Maintaining records and reports
Patient hand over to nurses and carers
Case Management
What additional clinical skills can be learnt?
• Scrub skills.
• Male and female catheterisation
• Aseptic techniques
• Handling specialised equipment such as catheters, wites, coils, balloons and stents
• Observe emergency procedures like nephrostomies, Gastrostomy, coiling along with trained nurse
• Problem solving and decision making.

Additional Information

Before a student starts their placement on angiography, we expect the following to be completed.
1.Contact the department a week in advance for telephone induction
2.Complete student self-assessment on PARE
