George Crossthwaite-Mugglestone / RUNNER UP

BA (Hons) Media and Performance

Since joining us at Salford, George has played an active role within the LGBTQ+ Society, and even became the Events Manager. Through this position, they have helped to contribute towards and create a welcoming and inclusive community of people at the University organising such events as the ‘Deep Sea Discotheque’, with proceeds going towards Mermaids UK in order to support transgender youth. Their work with the society has helped their fellow students with the difficult transition to university life, and they have been credited by their nominators for encouraging an uplifting and inclusive environment for others.

Outside of university, George contributes towards the blog ‘Monday or Tuesday’ and supports projects such as Sara Carpentieri’s The Queer Space We Create. This extra-curricular work helps them to spread awareness and positivity around the realities of being queer, while celebrating the differences that make us all unique. They are always the first to offer help to others and their positive outlook, to rise against adversity, never fails to inspire.

George says “I’ve had the best time being at Salford and this feels like the cherry on top of the cake. Thank you so much to my fellow finalist, Rowan Pritchard, for the nomination.”
