Ashton Moon Bateson / RUNNER UP

BA (Hons) Film Production

Ashton is praised by their lecturers as a valued, creative and enthusiastic student on the BA (Hons) Film Production course. During lockdown, they took a proactive and experimental approach to storytelling, taking to the small screen via a Tik Tok series. This led to Ashton writing and producing ‘The Cursed Necklace and The Possessed Ring’ which had 3 million views, with one episode alone receiving over 700,000 views.

Ashton’s resilient and imaginative attitude to filmmaking, utilising the locations and equipment they had at home, sourcing new ways to edit new characters into episodes even if they were based remotely across the country, is testament to their imagination and resourcefulness as a filmmaker. The success of the series resulted in a feature on the BBC website. Ashton has applied themself exceptionally hard over the last few years and is always willing to support others with their writing. They have shown fantastic creativity during these difficult times and a commitment to their craft, throughout the course and beyond.

Ashton says “This award nomination means the world to me. I have worked so hard over the last three years and succeeding despite there being a global pandemic which has been both challenging and rewarding. I can’t thank the team I have worked with over the pandemic, and my friends, enough. I wouldn’t have survived without you all.”
