Luke Wallworth / RUNNER UP

BA (Hons) Journalism: Multimedia

Described by lecturer Martin Hamer as “one of the most diligent and hard-working student journalists I’ve had the pleasure to teach”, Salford-born Luke has represented his study area, School and hometown University admirably in his three years as an undergraduate.

He has produced content for the likes of Manchester Evening News and Vavel, a Premier League and UEFA Champions League-accredited website. His excellent teamwork ethic has shone bright through his position as Sports Editor at Salford Now, where he demonstrated eagerness to support the University and a willingness to help his peers. Outside of his studies, Luke recently took up boxing and raised more than £1,000 for a children’s cancer charity.

Luke is always eager to receive feedback, allowing him to improve and respond with a determination and resolve to succeed in everything he does. This is evident following his involvement with Super League club Salford Red Devils, which has resulted in the offer of full-time position as their Press Office, before he has even graduated.

Luke says “To just be nominated for this award is something that I see as an incredible achievement. My course is full of so many talented and skilled individuals, so to be one of only four students to be shortlisted is something I am really proud of. I’ve learnt so much during my three years at the University of Salford and have had some incredible opportunities. I am not afraid to say that I have worked very, very hard to get where I am now in the sports media industry, but I recognise how important everything I have learnt from the course, my tutors and my fellow students, has been. I am really grateful to Martin Hamer for nominating me.”
