Councillor Jim Cammell

Lead Member for Children’s & Young People’s Services, Salford City Council / Citizenship Award Presenter

A former retail manager, Councillor Jim Cammell was elected to Salford City Council in 2019 and now represents the new Swinton Park ward. As a keen cyclist, he was chosen as the city’s cycling and walking champion to encourage more people to switch from cars to sustainable, green methods of moving around the city, particularly for short journeys. Both Greater Manchester and Salford City Council are investing heavily in new and improved walking and cycling routes to sustain the huge increase in both seen during the pandemic.

Councillor Cammell was also executive support member for social care and mental health and, following this year’s elections in May, was appointed the Lead Member for Children’s and Young People’s Services at Salford City Council. As Lead Member, his role is wide ranging and covers 200 statutory duties relating to children’s and young people’s education and social care, including fostering, pre-school and school education, youth services and services for children with special educational needs and disabilities.
