Get On Ya Bike!

Last Wednesday, 21st March, saw the launch of our first Energy Display Screen in Maxwell Reception.

Representatives from the University’s Carbon Management Programme Board, Projects Team and Green Representatives were invited to the event. The Vice Chancellor, Martin Hall, was on hand to turn on the first energy screen and gave a short speech about the University’s commitment to reducing its building energy consumption levels to reduce energy costs and the associated CO2 emissions.

Matteo Littera, Energy Manager, talked about what the screens are showing and how to read the graphs. The screens show a variety of information including live energy consumption data, energy saving tips and energy consumption trends over time. For more information about the screens and how to read the graphs visit our user guide at http://www.estates.salford.ac.uk/cms/resources/uploads/File/Energy%20Screens%20-%20E&PS%20Website.pdf.

Also on the day we were there (the Environment and Sustainability Team) with our bike powered Scalextric which we use to give staff and students an idea of how much power is needed to power even the smallest of things.

The Energy Display Screen’s will be showcased at University House, Clifford Whitworth and Allerton buildings over the coming months to give the building users information about the screens. The Scalextric’s competition will be carried on with a Co-Op voucher for the fastest lap. So come on down on these dates and find out more.

University House – 29th March

Clifford Whitworth – 17th April

Allerton – 3rd May
