Up and Coming Events

I hope that you have had a good summer and enjoying the start of term. Have a look below at some of the exciting stuff we have going on this semester.

17th Octoberis our annual Wallness Lane clean up. We spend a couple of hours clearing along Wallness Lane by the Leisure Centre which is a well used cut through for students. Working on this will go towards hours needed on the Student Life Award scheme as well. It is 12-2pm although if people can only do an hour they are welcome to come along. Please email eps-sustainability@salford.ac.uk for more information and to register an interest.

23rd October is this year’s first Swishing Party being held at Café Yours from 6pm. We invite students to bring along any clothing that they no longer want and ‘swop’ them for someone else’s. This idea has been very popular in London and we are hoping to make it big in Salford.

6th November is the Health & Wellbeing Expo where StudentLife will be showing students how to have healthy lifestyles. This will include freebies, cooking demos and activities.

13th-23rd November is Watch Your Waste Week. All across Greater Manchester there are events taking place. These include free sewing classes, a fashion show at the Museum of Science and Industry and cooking classes. For more information and tickets go to http://www.recycleforgreatermanchester.com/get-involved/watch-your-waste-week. For free cooking classes in your local area check out http://www.recycleforgreatermanchester.com/reduce/food-waste/cookery-classes.

15th November is Student Masterchef. Students are asked to sign up in teams of 2 and complete for the title of Salford Student Masterchef 2012. Prizes for the winners and runners-up are as follows:

  • 1st Prize : Dinner for 2 at Grenache Restaurant in Salford and the Masterchef Trophy
  • 2nd Prize: A £50 Sainsbury’s Voucher
  • 3rd Prize : A £30 Sainsbury’s Voucher

You don’t have to be an amazing cook to take part as help will be on hand. If you are interested in taking part please email eps-sustainability@salford.ac.uk with you and your partners name. Each person needs to be a student at the University of Salford.

27th November is our Christmas Ethical Fashion Fair over on Allerton Concourse. Come along and pick up some great Christmas presents for family and friends made by local designers.

As always please check out our website, blog, Facebook and Twitter accounts where we will be posting more info about all of our events.
