The 8th annual SDG Teach In returns and will take place throughout March 2025. Take part by pledging to incorporate the SDGs into your teaching.
The SDG Teach In is a campaign delivered by SOS-UK which calls upon all educators to embed the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into their teaching, training, learning or assessment throughout March.
We know that 84 per cent of students would like to see sustainable development actively incorporated throughout their education. The Teach In is therefore an ideal springboard for developing or continuing meaningful engagement in this area.
Dr Dave Beck, Lecturer of Social Policy, let us know why he is taking part in the SDG Teach In:
“In our new Sociology and Criminology module ‘Environmental Justice’, I wanted to show the importance of the SDGs to the subjects we cover by ensuring they are embedded into each lecture. This means that students are required to think about the SDGs within each discussion, debate, case studies, and their final assessed project. This approach helps students see the direct connection between environmental justice and specific SDGs. By doing so, students gain a comprehensive understanding of how addressing environmental issues can contribute to achieving the global goals, fostering a sense of social responsibility and empowering them to take action towards creating a more just and sustainable world”.
Matthew Allen, Lecturer in Economics has also pledged:
“I am pledging to include the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in my teaching because sustainability is fundamental to the future of business. Integrating the SDGs helps students understand the interconnected challenges of economic growth, environmental responsibility, and social equity. By embedding these principles into their learning, students are encouraged to make informed, ethical, and forward-thinking business decisions that contribute to a more sustainable and resilient global economy.”
Leaderboards will be published throughout March with institutions with the most pledges; help us get The University of Salford on there!
