Food Made Good Award

We are delighted to share that we have been awarded two stars in our first evaluation in the Food Made Good Awards. The Awards, run by the Sustainable Restaurant Association assesses businesses on their commitment to ethical sourcing, reducing environmental impact, and fostering a positive social impact.

We are thrilled to receive the Two Star Food Made Good Award with a score of 69%, just 1% shy of the three-star rating.

We scored particularly well on the Environmental pillar thanks to our ambitious net zero targets, waste reduction initiatives, and certified environmental and energy management system.

Our Eat and Drink Team have implemented a number of sustainable measures including:

  • Sourcing many food and products locally and seasonally to support the local economy and reduce environmental impact
  • All animal products meet high environmental and animal welfare standards, such as free-range and Red Tractor assurance.
  • All of the fish products we use from our direct seafood supplier are MSC certified
  • Reviewing and improving the nutritional quality of food offerings, to reduce the presence of ultra-processed foods
  • Moving to re-usable crockery for many events and providing all water in glass bottles
  • Fairtrade tea, coffee and sugar are used as standard in university hospitality

Bec Bennett, Associate Director of Sustainability said “This recognition highlights the university’s commitment to making a positive impact through our food service operations. Achieving this milestone in just seven months as Eat and Drink on Campus is a remarkable accomplishment. It exemplifies our dedication to embedding sustainability throughout the University, driving positive change for both society and the environment. We remain committed in our efforts to further integrate sustainability into our operations and are determined to achieve the three-star rating in the future”

Areas for future development include enhancing plant-forward menu options, taking additional steps to promote healthy eating, developing clearer commitments to supporting local communities and communicating more about our sustainability efforts.
