At the University of Salford, we believe in connecting people, planet, and place – and this year’s World Bicycle Day was a perfect reflection of message.
Cycling into Sustainability
With a rare glimpse of sunshine overhead, our Sustainability Team hosted a guided bike tour to Kersal Wetlands – a stunning local green space with a story to tell. Led by our very own Nigel Blandford, the event brough together students and staff.

A Ride with Purpose
As Nigel explained, Kersal Wetlands play a crucial role in Salford’s climate resilience – providing safe flood plains that help protect our communities from rising waters. It’s a powerful example of how working with nature can play a part in tackling the climate crisis.

Discover Inclusive Cycling with Cycling UK
Building on the momentum of World Bicycle Day, we’re proud to spotlight Cycling UK’s Inclusive Cycling Experience – a programme that champions accessibility, independence and wellbeing for all. Whether you’re managing a long-term health condition, navigating a sensory impairment, or just exploring new ways to stay active, this initiative makes cycling an option for everyone.

Ride Your Way
Inclusive cycling sessions and a flexible loan programme offer access to a variety of adaptive cycles. These sessions provide a safe, supportive environment where participants can find the right bike, build confidence, and enjoy the freedom of movement.
The loan scheme is flexible too – try different bikes during the guided sessions, then borrow one for a day, a week, or even a month.

Who Can Join?
The programme welcomes individuals who self-identify as disabled, as well as those with long-term physical or mental health conditions or sensory impairments.
