‘How We Met’ celebrates the lifelong connections you made at Salford—whether that’s friendships, romance, or mentors who made a real difference.
This Valentine’s Day, Salford alumnus Adam Dickinson tells us how he met his wife, Rebecca, when they were both students. Love blossomed on a chance encounter in the indie clubs of Manchester back in the 90s—and is still going strong today.
How did you meet?
Rebecca was studying Design Studies on the floor beneath Spatial Design (Interior Architecture), where I was a year older. We were on a midweek night out, after the pint pot, and both had been in separate groups in 5th Avenue and then to The Venue, now closed of course. We got chatting and realised we studied pretty much next to each other at Salford. The rest is history! I even bought her a kebab from Cafe Loco—what a gent!
We have been together pretty much ever since—after all, it was the Friends era of “We were on a break!”
Tell us about your life together after uni.
We have a 13-year-old boy Oliver. We have travelled far and wide as a lovely little triangle.
What is your advice for those looking for romance on campus?
I honestly would have no clue what to advise, we had to pluck up real or Dutch courage. Now it’s a swipe left or right. I would just say don’t look and it will find you.
Thank you to Adam and Rebecca for sharing your love story!
