Beeeee Safarrriiiii

Saturday 31st March saw the University’s first Bee Safari on The Meadow next to Peel Park. The session was run by Oliver Bishop, a postgraduate student from the Ecosystems and Environment Research Centre here at the University, and Jess Britch, the Park Ranger for Peel Park.

We had a great turn out for the session with staff, students and members of the local community turning up to learn about Bees and their habitats.

Over 2 hours we saw 5 Buff-Tailed Bumblebees, 1 White-Tailed Bumblebee, 1 Red-Tailed Bumblebee, 1 Honey Bee and a Queen Honey Bee. The group also made Bee houses out of bamboo canes and wild flower pots to attract bees in their own gardens.

For more information about Bees visit our Fact Page http://www.estates.salford.ac.uk/cms/resources/uploads/File/Bee%20Fact%20Sheet.pdf.

Over the next month the University will be announcing its full biodiversity schedule for the next year which will be open for attendance to staff, students and the local public. If you have any queries about what activities are happening on site or want to get involved please email eps-sustainability@salford.ac.uk
