This June is Pride Month and there’s lots going on in Salford and Manchester to help you celebrate in a safe way!
June has been recognised as Pride Month for the past 51 years, to coincide with the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots of 1969, which took place in New York.
Manchester and Salford “pride” themselves on being a LGBTQ+ friendly region, so whilst the pandemic may have put paid to plans for large in-person events, there are plenty of ways for the LGBTQ+ community and their allies to celebrate and access support during this time. I’ve rounded up some of my ideas in this article – comment some of your tips below!
Manchester Pride
Although not happening during the month of June, tickets have now been released for one of the biggest LGBTQ+ events in the UK – Manchester Pride.
Manchester Pride Festival is scheduled for August Bank Holiday weekend (August 27-30), if the Government’s roadmap goes as planned. The famous Pride Parade is due to take place on Saturday 28 August with the theme “Garden of Freedom”.
Manchester Pride Live is a gig scheduled to take place on 28 and 29 August with a series of performances including Sigala, Katy B, Zara Larsson and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.
Manchester Bars
Now that some restrictions on hospitality have been lifted in England, it’s the perfect time to rediscover some of the bars, cafes and restaurants that call Manchester’s iconic Canal Street home. Check out some of these favourites.
Via – 28 Canal Street
The Thompsons Arms – 23 Sackville
GAY – Richmond Street
The Molly House – 26 Richmond Street
New York New York – 94 Bloom Street

Support services in Salford and Manchester
At the University of Salford we have an active student body and staff who support the rights of our LGBTQ+ community. We have lots of resources available for anyone seeking assistance or support in expressing and exploring identity.
You can contact the University with any questions at LGBT@salford.ac.uk or by calling 0161 295 0023, or if you feel you would benefit from talking to someone one-on-one, you can also reach out to the University’s Wellbeing and Counselling services.
If you live in Salford support is also available from the LGBT Foundation and 42nd Street.
Enjoy the celebrations ?️??
