Salford Business School is proud to boast a rich cohort of international students and alumni. One of those alumni is Ahsen Noor Malik, a graduate of the MSc Financial Technology programme who is currently making his mark within the financial services industry.
Originally from Pakistan, where he completed his undergraduate and Masters degree in Business Administration, Ahsen came to Salford in 2021 having amassed strong experience in working for financial institutions, both in the banking and regulatory sectors.
“I wanted to further my knowledge and open doors in the financial technology industry, which is why I decided to pursue further study,” Ahsen explains. “The MSc Financial Technology course seemed perfect for what I was after. The University of Salford recognised my experiences so far, and I also wanted to move close to Manchester because of the opportunities being in a city. Plus, I’m a Manchester United fan – which always helps!”
Ahsen received the Global Gold Excellence Scholarship, which is applied to high achieving international students. Postgraduate applicants like Ahsen receive £3,000 if they can demonstrate the achievement of a First Class undergraduate degree.
Now, he’s flying high as a Customer Relationship Specialist for Close Brothers, a merchant bank based in London, though Ahsen is working at their Manchester office.
“My team sits within the Wholesale Finance division providing tailored finance solutions to businesses in the UK. It’s a really varied role and allows me to use lots of the things I learned during my time studying at Salford from finance to technology. I’m loving it so far: it was my dream to secure a role in the financial services industry, and with the sector growing at pace it’s a really exciting opportunity for me.”
Ahsen is positive about his time studying at Salford Business School.
“The faculty all felt really knowledgeable. I’d especially like to commend the employability team, who were so supportive and helped me learn the skills needed to get a great job. It was particularly important to me coming from a new country, as they really helped me feel at home in Salford.”
