Princess Street in Manchester

Manchester and Salford have so many activities on offer, from bars to bowling and crazy golf they have it all, but not many people talk about the huge range of outdoor activities that are both fun and affordable! Therefore, here are the outdoor activities in Manchester and Salford which I think are perfect for when you want to enjoy the weather and get outdoors.

1. Uswim in Salford Quays

Uswim is an open water swimming activity which takes place at Dock 9 in Salford Quays every Wednesday and Saturday. Tickets also go as low as £7 for adults, so it’s a really nice inexpensive activity for those who enjoy open water swimming or want to try something new. They also put on some special events on top of their regular swimming slots, such as ‘Neon Swim’, ‘Summer Solstice Night Swim’ and a New Years day swim every year, which is a great way to start the new year! So, if you fancy a swim definitely check out their website for upcoming events.

2. Girlhood Manchester

Girlhood is a volunteer-led organisation which encourages girls to get out of their comfort zone and meet new people through a range of different events. The events are a mix of paid and free, depending on the activity, making it a really affordable way for students to get outdoors  and really explore Manchester if you haven’t already lived here before university. On top of regular communal walks, the organisation also holds further events like retreats, workshops and workout classes so it’s definitely worth checking out with everything they have on offer! You can check them out on Instagram here.

3. Sunrise Yoga

Sunrise Yoga is organised by @wellnessclubmcr on Instagram, and is a 35 minute yoga session held on Wednesday and Saturday morning at 8am and Tuesdays at 12pm weekly. Although most of their sessions commence indoors, they also do occasional outdoor sessions on the MediaCityUK plaza during the warmer months due to the nicer weather. It’s a super relaxing and rejuvenating way to start your mornings and is open to people with all sorts of yoga experience, so if you’re a beginner you’re more than welcome to attend! Tuesday sessions are only £4 and Wednesday sessions are absolutely free to attend so it’s a very student friendly and affordable activity to do, especially if you’re based on MediaCity campus (you could even get a yoga session in before your lecture!) – Make sure to contact their Instagram directly for a further 20% student discount too!
