Why did you choose to study your course?
I have a BA in Creative Music Technology and am currently studying an MA in Interactive Music and Advanced Studio Production. I chose to study these courses as I am a musician and audio technologist and wanted to pursue study where I could develop both my creative and technical skills.
What made you choose the University of Salford?
I mainly chose Salford because the facilities are fantastic and the course I applied for had a great reputation!
How will your degree help with your future career plans?
Studying at Salford has already helped me secure freelance employment. I have benefited from the University’s industry links and the skills that I have gained at the University have enabled me to find work externally.
How has the university supported you?
I have received support from the University in many ways. My tutors and lecturers have helped me pursue a number of professional and academic opportunities. I’ve also found the University’s general student support service really helpful.
What resources and facilities enriched your learning experience?
The recording studios in the New Adelphi building are fantastic, I’ve learned so much in them! Without access to the studios and other high quality equipment I wouldn’t have the skill level that I have now.
What’s been your favourite aspect or module of the course?
The Masters course has allowed me to focus on niche skills which have expanded my creative practice in many ways. It’s also given me an opportunity to form a deeper understanding of practice-as-research methods.
Why should someone apply for this course and how should they prepare?
I recommend applying for the Masters if you want to learn more about emerging music/audio technologies and discover how you can integrate them into your creative practice. I found it helpful to discuss the course with module leaders and do some initial research into the course material to make an informed decision about whether the course was right for me.
What has been the most valuable part of studying at Salford?
Gaining confidence in my skills and benefitting from the supportive learning environment!
