Salford Business School is excited to announce the return of HR Unpacked, the University’s dedicated human resources (HR) and employment law podcast, where hosts Dr Jonathan Lord and Peninsula’s Kate Palmer discuss the hot topics that are currently taking the industry by storm.

This season will make for a particularly captivating listen as audiences hear from high-profile guests such as Counsellor and accredited menopause coach, Emma Neville; former NHS HR Director, Tracy Boylin; CEO at BrightHR and COO at Peninsula Group, Alan Price; and Peninsula’s Nicola Mullineux, amongst others.
The season has kickstarted with Peninsula’s Associate Director of HR Content, Nicola Mullineux reflecting on the new employment legislation introduced by the Labour government and the expected impact of recent changes on the workplace. The new episode launched recently and is available on Spotify, as well as all major podcasting platforms.
Continuing the season, Emma Neville, will discuss how the menopause shouldn’t be a ‘taboo’ subject in the workplace and the impact it can have on women’s careers. Emma has previously led conversations on menopause at the University as part of her ‘This is Me’ menopause awareness campaign and will share these invaluable messages on an even larger scale, via the podcast.
Jonathan, Senior Lecturer in HR Management and Employment Law here at Salford Business School, commented: “This season we will be hearing from key individuals who are advocating for pivotal changes within the world of HR.
“Throughout the podcast, we will help listeners to develop a further understanding of the changes we’re anticipating from new government legislation. We’ll also shine a light on some significant topics that can sometimes be overlooked, including the effect of the menopause on women’s careers, as well as sexual harassment in the workplace.”
Additional episode themes featured throughout season three of the podcast include, Peninsula’s Employer Confidence Index 2025, which highlights challenges facing employers in the current climate, as well as trends when it comes to business sentiment. In addition, whistleblowing in the NHS, burnout blocking and revenge quitting, artificial intelligence (AI) in recruitment and much more will be covered this season.
Kate Palmer, Employment Services Director at Peninsula, added: “This season of HR Unpacked is set to be the biggest yet as we explore the ever-changing landscape of HR and employment law. An extraordinary amount of change has already happened in the last year, with 10 new laws having come in already applying to all businesses, no matter how large or small. And this year shows no signs of slowing down. We’ll be unpacking the major changes to help HR professionals understand and get ahead of them, with valuable insight from experts at the top of their game. I do hope you can join us.”
Episodes one and two from the new season are now available to stream on all major podcast platforms, including Spotify and Apple Podcasts, as well as YouTube. New episodes will be released weekly on Fridays.
