Salford graduates came together in London for an evening of memories, conversation and reconnection at our latest Alumni Social, hosted by Vice-Chancellor Professor Nic Beech.
Held at Under the Arch at Comptoir Bakery, the social brought together alumni from different decades, industries and walks of life. It was a chance to catch up with the University, meet fellow graduates and hear more about what’s next for Salford.
Professor Beech shared updates on the University’s future plans and spoke about Salford’s strong civic purpose, commitment to social mobility and the important part alumni play in supporting current students and recent graduates.

He also celebrated the power of the Salford alumni community, including the 1,067 hours of volunteering given by graduates in the last academic year. That is more than six months of full-time work, helping students through mentoring, career talks, placements, professional networks, scholarships and other forms of support.
A highlight of the evening was the chance to look back through Salford’s history, with University Archivist Alex Mitchell bringing along a selection of archive materials. The display included past prospectuses, Students’ Union magazines and photographs of campus through the years, including familiar halls of residence and well-remembered corners of campus.
The archive became a talking point, sparking stories of student life, nights out, lectures, friendships and the places that made Salford feel like a home away from home.

Sophie Thorp, Head of Philanthropy, Alumni and Supporters Engagement, said: “It was wonderful to see so many of our alumni reconnecting with each other and with Salford. What really stood out was the warmth in the room. Our graduates have such a strong fondness for the University, and a real willingness to give back and support the next generation of students.
“Events like this remind us that the Salford connection does not end at graduation. Our alumni community continues to share experience, open doors and support students in so many different ways.”
The evening also sparked conversations about how graduates can stay involved, from mentoring and placements to scholarships, partnerships and sharing their professional experience.
Today, the University’s alumni community includes around 230,000 graduates across the world. Whether you graduated last year or several decades ago, you remain part of the Salford community.
