As you will remember, there is no better feeling than putting on your cap and gown and crossing the stage to collect your degree.
Graduation is our favourite event in the University calendar, and it’s just around the corner. Thousands of new graduates will be celebrating the culmination of years of hard work and going off into the world to fly the flag for Salford.
Last year, we asked our alumni to share their advice for our new graduates. Here are the ones that shone out to us.

Maria Yarjah, BA Media and Performance
A lesson I learned the hard way: “Expecting things to come easily because I ‘followed the right path.’ I’m still on my journey and there have been highs and lows. There is no ‘blueprint’ way to navigate life. So, lead your own way! And lead with your chest!”

Sian-Elen Fernyhough, Social Science
Message for students: “Don’t live in a university ‘bubble’. Embrace the local community. It will help you be a better and fairer citizen.”

Sharma Angel-Walfall, BA Media and Performance
“I went to Salford; I did BA in Media and Performance. Now I am a TV screenwriter, recently wrote for Doctor Who, amongst other shows. I just wanted to say enjoy every minute, keep shining, you can do it. Because I did!”

Victoria Dish, Quality and Project Management
“You are given 3 gifts at birth. Your breath. Your intuition. Your purpose. Use them!!!”
Thank you to all the alumni who wrote these lovely words of wisdom. If you would like to get involved and inspire students with your story, please email us at alumni@salford.ac.uk.
