Hey everyone 👋

Starting out on your university journey is such an exciting time. However, between meeting new friends and lecturers, learning new subjects, exploring a different city and finding your feet, things can get on top of us at times.  I’d like you to know that if things do get a bit much for you when you come to Salford, there’s lots of well-being support available to us from the University.

So if you find yourself feeling stressed, overwhelmed or just in need of a good chat, here are some places you can go to talk it all out.

ASK US

askUS is our University’s wellbeing team. You can go to askUS with any problems you’re having, be it about your work load, mental health and anything else you’ve got going on. You can speak to askUS about matters such as finance, wellbeing and counselling, accommodation and more. They’re here to help us maximise our potential in every area of life. When we’re back on campus you can find them in University House. To get in touch with askUS you can call 0161 295 0023 or email askus@salford.ac.uk. Alternatively you can live chat with askUS on any page on the askUS website.

24-HOUR HELPLINE

Our 24-hour Student CareFirst telephone helpline provides emotional support by trained counsellors. Always remember that no issue is too big or too small. If something is playing on your mind and you don’t want to speak to your family or friends about it, don’t be afraid to pick up the phone. If you would like to have a chat you can call someone on 0333 212 5968.

WELLBEING ADVISORS

Wellbeing Advisors at the University help us look at issues we are facing and offer support. They are a little different to counsellors in that they don’t offer therapeutic sessions. Our Wellbeing Advisors offer over the phone sessions throughout the week, as well as follow-up sessions. To book an appointment you can fill in the online self-referral form and an advisor will contact you to discuss your support needs and appointment options. If you can’t complete the form you can email wellbeing@salford.ac.uk or call 0161 295 0023.

COUNSELLING

Counsellors at the University help us on our personal journeys to understanding ourselves. Counselling is a talking therapy and you can access counselling with the University’s Counsellors during business hours or call the 24-hour helpline. Sessions last 50 minutes and all you need to do to book a session is fill in the online self-referral form or contact wellbeing@salford.ac.uk or 0161 295 0023.

SUPPORT FOR NEW STUDENTS

If you’ve got any worries about your mental health before joining us at the University of Salford we’ve got support here for you. You can send wellbeing@salford.ac.uk an email with the subject header “Applicant Query” along with your questions or worries. You can also call 0161 295 0023 to have your questions answered over the phone.
