Meet Ayaan, a MSc Operations Management and Business Analytics student from Pakistan. He shares his experience of navigating the jump from undergrad to postgrad and about his time at Salford.

Why Salford?

I was doing a bit of research and looking at universities in the UK and Pakistan. The thing that I noticed a lot about the University was that the people and staff are very friendly, and the user interface of the website is very user-friendly. It gave me a really positive vibe.

How does postgraduate study compare to undergraduate study?

Yeah, it’s a big difference. You must do a lot of research, and you need to know a lot of facts. It’s hard, but if you like putting your heart into something, it gets really interesting.

What’s the one thing you would tell students that are thinking about postgraduate study?

If you’re ready to do postgraduate study, be ready for some serious work. If you’re working, it’s going to be tough for you to manage time, but once you manage it, it feels good and worthwhile.

What are your plans after graduation?

I do plan to start my own business, but for now I want to look for a job that matches my degree like business analytics or an operation manager.

Tell us something about yourself people may not know!

Back in Pakistan, I was a professional table tennis player. I’ve won a couple of tournaments and played region for my city. I’ve also played for the University.

What is your favourite spot on campus or in Salford?

Peel Park definitely, but also MediaCity. I went to see the light show that happens over the river. It was really beautiful.

What would you tell your younger self?

I would tell my younger self not to rely on other people a lot and rely on yourself and your instincts. It’s okay to trust people, but don’t depend on them a lot.
