Hey, I’m Noah, a student here at the University of Salford studying Multimedia Journalism, and now in my final year I can say it’s been a hectic ride to say the least! Moving from Brighton up to Salford was a big lifestyle change but I’ve loved my time here and I’ve got no plans on slowing down, which is why I’m very excited to be one of your new student content creators this year. Hopefully I’ll create some fun and informative content with some helpful tips along the way.

Outside my course, I spend a lot of my time listening to music, going to gigs, and getting behind the microphone to talk about it all on Shock Radio, the university’s own student radio station. I’m also a football fan, enjoy photography and like finding new things to write about, whether that’s local politics, a new band or something happening in the eccentric world of wrestling (we’ll have to get into this one another time…).

I’ve always enjoyed finding interesting stories and sharing them with other people, so I’m looking forward to bringing that into my new role and showing people what life at Salford is really like.

How did I end up at Salford?

I’ve always been really interested in the world around me, particularly politics, current affairs and music, and journalism felt like a way to bring those interests together. I liked the idea of being able to ask questions, meet different people and find out more about the people and things that help shape our lives. I love being in Newsdays where I get to do all of this, working on Salford Now, the university’s student-ran news outlet. It gave me the opportunity to go out and cover the local elections this year, where I helped interview the local MP, Rebecca Long-Bailey, amongst other local people and politicians.

It’s highly rewarding to get out in the community and tell real stories, and we also get the privilege of being surrounded by the BBC and ITV in MediaCityUK, can’t get much better than that for connections and inspiration!

Why Salford?

After trudging up and down the country, from major University city to major University city, I was almost at a dead end with picking one. One course was too academic, while another didn’t seem challenging enough but when I came to Salford for the first time and walked through the town centre, hopped on a bright yellow tram and arrived at the MediaCity campus, I could see more and more boxes being checked in my brain.

The campus is expansive with 4 floors of kitted out classrooms, TV studios, a massive newsroom (this was a seller!) and a beautiful view out across the docks. It was the first place I could really imagine myself studying at, with a city buzz once removed from the chaotic nature of central Manchester. Through the modules, I can study a wide variety of niches within the industry from lifestyle to sports to Politics giving me skills across the newsroom, I was so set on it by decision time that I chose Salford and booked my Peel Park room without ever visiting the Peel Park campus! Still no regrets, I’ve made friends for life and learnt that some fans of Manchester United are actually from here…
