Blog: Introducing Shennel

Student sat in chair at BBC Radio

Hey, I’m Shennel, and I’m a third-year Broadcast Journalism student at the University of Salford. I love all things social media and I can’t wait to get started on giving you a glimpse into Salford life as one of your new Student Content Creators!

In my two years here I’ve joined the dance society, moved into a house with my friends, explored the hidden gems of Manchester, and I’m just about starting to understand the Manc accent. So, I feel like I could teach you a few tips.

How did I get here?

Even from a child, I always loved being in front of the camera and putting on shows for my mum, so studying a creative course was a no brainer for me. What drew me to Salford was the MediaCity campus and studying amongst the BBC and ITV, it has given me something to aspire to and a myriad of opportunities. Also, coming from London, I knew I had to move to another busy city, so being a stone’s throw away from the heart of Manchester was perfect for me.

What I love about Salford

For me, Salford has been more than somewhere to just get a degree. It is now my home, where I have formed so many friendships and grown as a person. I love that Salford is a campus uni as it makes it feel more homely and helps with the adjustment of moving out. Joining the dance society has also immensely added to my experience here and I don’t know what I’ll do when I can’t dress up in a silly costume every Wednesday night and escape to the dance studio three times a week.

I can’t wait to see what’s in store for my final year and to take you along with me!
