Coming to university is one of the biggest challenges of your young adult life – bigger workload, living alone, moving to a different city, and, sometimes, even a different country. Whatever your situation might be, coming to university means a lot of new responsibilities.

So to make sure you have everything planned and are ready to go, I’ve put together a list of what you should learn before moving out.

1. How to manage your money:

It’s undeniable that as soon as you go to university, your money disappears. Suddenly you need to buy a lot of stuff that you didn’t before, and, if you don’t learn how to manage that, you might have a few surprises by the end of the month.

5. How to cook your favourite meal…and a few others:

The majority of students that come to university don’t know how to cook. If that’s how it is in your case, before moving out, you should take a few lessons and learn how to make the meals you’re used to eating.

6. How to schedule your home tasks:

One of the toughest parts of moving out of home is managing your time between your university work and your household tasks. A good way of getting organized is to make a list of the main tasks you need to do and put them in a week planner.

7. When it’s time to do your laundry:

For some reason when you move out of home, things that were definitely not acceptable a few weeks ago suddenly seem no big deal – like wearing the same pair of jeans for a whole month. But, for the sake of others around you, make sure you know when enough is enough, and do some washing. After all, no one needs to smell that.

8. How to separate clothes:

When doing laundry, one of the main things to think about is keeping your whites white. For that to happen, you must first know how to separate them from clothes that might stain them. Otherwise you could have different clothes when the washing cycle is done.

9.How to kill a bug:

Of course going to university is scary, but nothing is worse than having a bug in your bedroom. Well, I have some bad news for you, this happens. So make sure you know how to get rid of them, or you’re in for some scary nights

10. How to write a grocery list:

After 2 weeks of eating nothing but noodles, you’ll really wish you knew how to buy proper groceries. So learn a few simple recipes that are within your budget, and take a trip to the supermarket once in a while.
